The law behind the proof · England and Wales

350 years of English law says: prove it. sebbi.pro does.

Every court in England asks the same questions of a record: was it made at the time, by whom, has it been changed, and where has it been kept? Parliament has been answering them since 1677. sebbi.pro answers all of them for every AI decision, automatically, with proof anyone can check in Bitcoin.

1677

Statute of Frauds 1677, s.4

A guarantee can only be enforced if it is in writing and signed. The Court of Appeal accepted an email signature in 2012 (Golden Ocean v Salgaocar).

With sebbi.pro: Every guarantee, approval or sign-off your AI handles is sealed the moment it is made, with who signed and when, so the writing and the signature can be proved.

1938

Evidence Act 1938, s.4

A document at least 20 years old, coming from proper custody, is presumed genuine without further proof.

With sebbi.pro: sebbi.pro keeps an unbroken custody record: daily self-proving archives and independent copies, so a record still proves itself decades from now.

1980

Limitation Act 1980, ss.5 and 11A

Contract claims can be brought for 6 years (12 for deeds). Product liability claims have a 10-year longstop.

With sebbi.pro: Bitcoin timestamps never expire, and anyone can check them in 10 or 20 years with nothing from sebbi.pro.

1987

Consumer Protection Act 1987, Part 1 and s.4(1)(e)

Producers are strictly liable for defective products. The development risks defence needs proof of what science and technology knew when the product was released.

With sebbi.pro: Seal your testing, model version and release evidence on release day. The date is fixed in Bitcoin, so nobody can say it was written afterwards.

1995

Civil Evidence Act 1995, ss.8 and 9

A copy of a document can be used in place of the original (s.8). Business records can be received in evidence on a certificate signed by an officer of the business, with no further proof (s.9).

With sebbi.pro: Every sealed record gets a ready-made evidence certificate at sebbi.pro/evidence, with the s.9 certificate drafted for your officer to sign, and a fingerprint that proves any copy matches the original.

2000

Electronic Communications Act 2000, s.7

Electronic signatures, and certificates about them, are admissible as evidence of where a record came from and that it is intact.

With sebbi.pro: Each sealed decision carries a cryptographic seal and chain link, which is evidence of integrity a court can admit.

2000

The computer evidence presumption (after PACE 1984 s.69 was repealed)

Courts presume a computer was working correctly unless there is evidence it was not. After the Post Office Horizon scandal, the Ministry of Justice opened a review of the rule in January 2025.

With sebbi.pro: Do not rely on a presumption under review. sebbi.pro records can be checked against Bitcoin by anyone, so you prove the record instead of asking the court to assume it.

2003

Criminal Justice Act 2003, ss.117 and 129

Business documents are admissible in criminal cases (s.117). Where a machine's output depends on information a person put in, that input must be proved accurate (s.129).

With sebbi.pro: sebbi.pro seals the inputs, who supplied them and the output together, so the whole chain from human to machine can be shown.

2006

Companies Act 2006, ss.386 to 388

Companies must keep adequate accounting records: 3 years for private companies, 6 for public.

With sebbi.pro: AI decisions that move money are sealed into the record as they happen, ready for the auditor.

2015

Consumer Rights Act 2015, ss.34 to 36 and 42

Digital content must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. A fault found within 6 months is presumed to have been there from the start.

With sebbi.pro: Seal what your AI product did and how it was described, so you can show what the customer actually got.

2023

Electronic Trade Documents Act 2023, s.2

Sets the test for a 'reliable system': it must protect records against unauthorised change, and courts can weigh its integrity measures, security and independent audits.

With sebbi.pro: sebbi.pro's hash chain, Merkle proofs and Bitcoin anchoring are integrity measures anyone can audit independently, the factors the Act lists.

2025

UK GDPR Articles 22A to 22D (Data (Use and Access) Act 2025)

Significant decisions made solely by automated processing need safeguards, including information about the decision and a way to reach a human and contest it.

With sebbi.pro: Every automated decision is sealed, and uncertain ones are routed to a person, so you can prove the safeguard was there.

CPR

Civil Procedure Rules, PD 57AD (disclosure)

Parties in the Business and Property Courts must preserve documents, including electronic records and their metadata, once litigation is in prospect.

With sebbi.pro: Sealed records cannot be lost, edited or quietly deleted, so preservation is automatic.

Why this matters now

The Post Office Horizon scandal showed what happens when courts simply assume a computer was right. The rule is under review. AI decisions will be challenged in the same courts. The businesses that win will be the ones whose records prove themselves, without asking anyone to trust the system that made them.
