What is the AI literacy requirement in the EU AI Act?

Article 4 requires providers and deployers of AI systems to take measures to ensure, to their best extent, a sufficient level of AI literacy among staff and others who operate or use AI systems on their behalf, taking into account their knowledge, the context of use and the people affected. It has applied since 2 February 2025 and covers all AI systems, not only high-risk ones.

How it works

  1. List who in your organisation uses or operates AI.
  2. Give them training matched to their role and the risks of the systems they use.
  3. Record who was trained, on what, and when, so you can show it later.
