What is the Colorado AI Act?
The Colorado Artificial Intelligence Act (SB24-205) is the first broad US state law on high-risk AI. It requires developers and deployers of AI systems that make, or are a substantial factor in making, consequential decisions about people (in employment, lending, housing, insurance, education, healthcare, legal and essential government services) to use reasonable care to protect people from algorithmic discrimination. Deployers need a risk management policy, impact assessments, notices to consumers and a way to appeal.
How it works
- Check whether your AI makes or substantially influences consequential decisions about Colorado residents.
- Run and record impact assessments.
- Notify consumers and give them a way to correct data and appeal adverse decisions.
- Keep sealed records of decisions and reviews.
