What it means

An AI system is high-risk if it is a safety component of, or is itself, a product covered by the laws in Annex I that needs third-party conformity assessment, or if it falls in an Annex III area. An Annex III system is not high-risk if it does not pose a significant risk, for example it performs a narrow procedural task, but it is always high-risk if it profiles people. Providers who decide it is not high-risk must document that assessment and register.
